Nutrition

Simply put, this is the one most important factor in maintaining a healthy and functional body and mind.  Providing yourself with the optimal amount of nutrients will promote mental performance and emotional balance, increase physical performance, lower occurence of ill health and is associated with a long and healthy lifespan.

The food and liquid we consume contains a mass of different nutrients that can be divided into two sub categories, macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients.  Macronutrients consist of three different nutrients and include carbohydrates, proteins and fats.  They generally provide us with energy and eaten in the correct ratio  help maintain and build soft tissue in our bodies.  Micronutrients consist of many vitamins and minerals that activate body processes like stimulating enzyme pathways and balancing chemical reactions, as well as being foundations for maintaining our musculoskeletal system.  Along with these nutrients we consume is fibre, which helps maintain our digestive tract, and water of which two thirds of our bodies are made of.  Getting the right balance of all these nutrients is key to unlocking your greatest potential.

No one person is the same and everyone is an individual, so it is not as simple as one diet fits all.  The general rules to follow include; drinking water when you are thirsty, eating a variety of whole foods (organic where possible) including lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, lean meats / proteins, some unsaturated fats as nuts, seeds and oils, with an additional daily intake of a good quality multivitamin / mineral and omega rich oil supplement, which will go a long way to boosting your micronutrient levels.  Limit or avoid alcohol, sugar and processed foods, particularly when trying to lose body fat.

A combined nutritional and exercise plan will offer the most reward by providing optimal performance, ideal body composition and overall wellness.
